1957 – Marlynn Donaldson

Marlynn (Turki) Donaldson
Miss SNPJ 1957: Strabane, Pa., Lodge 138

My brother Lawrence accompanied me to the Miss SNPJ Pageant in 1956 when I was 17. I went on to Penn State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education and taught school for two and a half years in Bethel Park, Pa.

I was married in 1962 to a lieutenant in the Navy. We were assigned to a naval facility in Antigua, West Indies, for over two years where I managed and taught at a Navy dependents’ high school. Our next assignment was to San Diego. I taught school while my husband served on a destroyer in Vietnam. We left San Diego for Philadelphia and I.B.M. Three years later, in 1969, we started our own company dealing with computerizing data for hospitals. Our first son, Gregory, was born the same year, with son Mitchell arriving nine and a half years later. We moved to Boca Raton, Fla., in 1984, where I became very involved in building our new home and activities in my sons’ schools and our community.

My husband and I divorced in 1989, and I continued my volunteer work in our community and accepted a board position at Mitch’s school. Greg graduated from Princeton and Vanderbilt Law School. Mitch attended the University of Miami and Florida Atlantic University (FAU). They are both married. Greg and Lisa have presented us with two beautiful granddaughters, Caroline and Alexandra. In my spare time I roller blade, exercise, bicycle, travel, read, play with my granddaughters and make Nantucket baskets.

I married Barry in 2001, and we moved to beautiful Highland Beach. He is a practicing architect here in Florida and in several other states. We spend our winters in Florida and our summers at the shore in New Jersey.
