Miss SNPJ 2015 Nicole Elizabeth Vehar is the daughter of Thomas and Tamme Vehar (138), and granddaughter of Mary and the late Jacob Vehar (138), and the late Rose Marie and Roger Siek (259). Nicole’s siblings include her older brother Ian and sister Heather, both of whom are members of Strabane Lodge 138. Also part of her immediate family and Lodge 138 is her niece Ainsley Vehar, who just turned 4 years old.
Nicole is attending The Ohio State University where she is studying biomedical engineering. A recent graduate of the Chartiers-Houston School District, Class of 2014, she received many awards for her academic excellence. She was awarded Science Student of the Year, an award for merit in the field of science technology engineering and mathematics, and received an award from the Marine Corps for her academic honors. As a junior, Nicole was selected to attend the Eisman Material Science & Engineering Camp held at the American Society for Metals national headquarters in Cleveland. Nicole was a member of the girls varsity soccer team and served as vice president of the National Honor Society, as well as the president of four other clubs: Catalyst Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Government and Alchemist Club. Nicole has also mentored underclassman through the Life Skills Program. She participated in concert band, marching band and graduation band, and was captain of the CH Band Charettes Dance Team during her senior year. She was selected by her class peers for the fall homecoming court and as queen of her senior prom.
Nicole is a friendly, outgoing young woman who loves to get involved. A lifelong member of SNPJ Lodge 138 in Strabane, Pa., she has been active with Lodge 138 since she was 5 years old bowling on Saturday mornings with Youth Circle 19, participating in Lodge 138 bowling tournaments, volunteering at holiday parties and benefit dinners, helping with the children’s activities at the Lodge 138 annual Duck Race, and serving as a counselor for SNPJ Youth Roundup. Nicole was a Youth Roundup camper and a delegate to many TEL Workshops. This year she attended her first SNPJ Young Adult Conference, and you can always find Nicole at Slovenefest.
Outside of being an active member of the SNPJ and a freshman at OSU, Nicole works part-time as a restaurant hostess and as an “athlete” for Nike. She volunteers at the Washington County Health Center for the aging, where she participates in their annual senior prom. Nicole has twice donated her hair to the Wigs for Kids Foundation which makes hairpieces for children who have experienced hair loss due to chemotherapy or other medical reasons.
Including being honored and selected as Miss SNPJ 2015, Nicole was also awarded the titles of SNPJ Miss Activity 2015 and SNPJ Miss Fraternalism 2015. Nicole’s positive attitude lights up the room, and she always represents the SNPJ with pride.
