Miss SNPJ 2011 Selina Progar is a lifelong member of Lodge 138 in Strabane, Pa. She is the daughter of Donald (138) and Eliecia Progar, and the granddaughter of John and the late Mary (Cvetan) Progar (138), and Violet and the late John Yukevich.

A 2010 honor graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, Selina was a member of the Latin Club, Ski Club, Kids for Wish Kids, Lead Canon-McMillan Mentors and the swim team. She was inducted into the National Latin Honor Society and Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

Selina has spent many hours volunteering for the North Strabane Township Parks and Recreation Department, assisting with the annual Community Day celebration, lunch with Santa Claus, Easter egg hunt and the township’s 10K race. She has also been a regular volunteer for the Jack-O-Lantern Jog and 5K Race.

Selina’s involvement in SNPJ activity began as a toddler with the annual Strabane Youth Circle 19 Christmas production. She has continued to take part in the Circle by participating in Easter egg hunts, Halloween parties, field trips and youth bowling. She has represented her Lodge at TEL Workshops, and has participated in the Family Twosome Bowling Tournament with her father, winning four awards.

Selina has assisted with Lodge 138 bowling tournaments, the Lou Progar Scholarship Benefit, the Men’s 200 Club banquet, the SNPJ International Button Box Blast, and the annual Duck Race and Family Picnic. She has also enjoyed volunteering at Slovenefest and for numerous summer picnics.

In her spare time, Selina enjoys learning to play polkas and waltzes on her button box accordion. This pastime led her to join the South Hills Junior Tamburitzans. She also enjoys baking pastries, which influenced her decision to attend the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., to pursue a degree in baking and pastry arts.
